NYIT Defeats Wagner 4-3

OLD WESTBURY, NY - For the second-straight game the Seahawks were done in by untimely errors in their 4-3 loss at NYIT earlier this afternoon. The Bears scored two unearned runs on the heels of three Seahawk errors to make it back-to-back wins over the Green & White. Wagner is now 7-25 while NYIT improves to 18-12.

In the top of the first, junior Ed Sudol (Wallington, NJ / Wallington) picked up right where he left off in the two teams' meeting earlier this week, connecting on his second two-run home run in as many at bats to left center field to make it 2-0 Wagner.

The Bears tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth with two unearned runs, on the strength of two Seahawk errors in the inning.

The Seahawks regained the lead in the top of the sixth when freshman Andrew Huebner (Hatfield, PA / North Penn) singled to left field driving in senior Nick Papa (Freehold, NJ / Freehold), who scored his second run of the game.

NYIT answered yet again in the top of the eighth as they plated the tying run on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the inning, the Seahawks had a chance to go ahead, but could not capitalize on a second and third one out situation.

After a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning, Andrew Karkoulas led off the bottom part of the ninth with a triple and scored the winning run on a Joe Esposito single.

Junior rhp Dan Lanzano (E. Brunswick, NJ / E. Brunswick) took the loss in falling to 2-5, despite striking out three in 1.2 innings of work. He got the Seahawks out of two tough jams in the previous two innings but was unable to pull off the hat trick.

Freshman Kevin Rush (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) had an excellent outing despite picking up a no-decision. He yielded just two unearned runs in 5.1 innings and left with a 3-2 lead.

Sudol led the Seahawks at the plate going 2-3 with a two-run home run while Papa was 1-4 with two runs scored. Junior Joseph DiGeronimo (Hawthorne, NJ / Hawthorne) also extended his hitting streak to nine games, the longest by a Seahawk this year.

The Seahawks return to NEC play this weekend when they head to Central Connecticut State on Saturday, April 22 for a noon doubleheader.
