FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY - The Wagner College women's tennis team rolled to their second-straight victory blanking St. Francis (NY) by a 7-0 count at the National Tennis Center. With the win the Seahawks are now 5-13 and 4-5 in the NEC.
The Seahawks won all six singles' matches and the three doubles' matches for the second-straight match.
Freshman Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) showed no effects of a recent injury that forced her to miss time as she dominated in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Senior Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY / Central Islip) also rolled by a 6-0, 6-1 count at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA / Saint Andrew's) was victorious 6-4, 6-3. Classmate Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) was perfect at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Fellow sophomore Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) lost just one point in dominating at the five spot, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) concluded the blowout victory with a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 performance at six singles.
In doubles play, Frazza and Crane won 8-3 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Owen and Mahtani combined for an 8-0 victory. Rounding out doubles play, Patel and Boyd won by an identical 8-0 score.
The two teams will meet again in the first round of the NEC Tennis Championships on Friday, April 21 at 9 am in Mercer County, NJ.
