Game Two Box
Staten Island, NY - The Seahawks softball team swept their way into a share of first place in the Northeast Conference with 5-3 and 11-1 (5) wins over visiting Quinnipiac. With the sweep, Wagner runs its winning streak to a season high eight straight and is now tied with LIU at 10-2 in the league.
Wagner (26-14 overall) fell behind 1-0 in the opener as the Bobcats capitalized on one of four Seahawk errors for an unearned run in the second. The Seahawks would then tie the game in the third as senior Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) continued her torrid hitting with her fourth triple of the year. She then came into score one batter latter as sophomore Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach) reached on an error.
Quinnipiac (14-29; 8-3 NEC) regained the lead in the fourth on a RBI single from Michelle Petree, one of her three hits in the game. The Seahawks then caught a break as another run would have score but was disallowed as the on deck batter was called for interference. Wagner would fight back to even the score once again in the last of the fifth on a two out, bases loaded, RBI single to center by sophomore Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central).
In the top of the sixth the Bobcats regained the lead as Sarah Collins came into scored on an outfield error following another hit from Petree.
Wagner, now 10-1 at home this year, then took over in the last of the sixth scoring three runs to take the 5-3 lead. Batistelli would deliver again for the Seahawks dropping a one out bases loaded double into right center scoring junior Natalie Stephens (Jackson, NJ / Jackson) and sophomore Katie Stevens (Reno, NV / Reno). Junior Christina Hopkins (Edison, NJ / Edison) then scored the final run of the inning beating a throw in from second on a hit by freshman Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic).
Now with the 5-3 lead junior Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) breezed through the seventh in order to pick up her 15th win of the year against six losses. Miller would surrender seven hits and three runs, one earned with six strikeouts. Kristin Sheriff, who was named NEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, was charged with the loss (5-9).

In game two, Wagner jumped out first scoring two runs, on zero hits, while drawing four walks and a hit batter as sophomore
Margaret Gallia (Las Vegas, NV / Community College HS) and Hopkins recorded RBIs. The Bobcats made it 2-1 in the second on a RBI single from Petree.
In the third Gallagher dropped a two out hit of the glove of the charging left fielder to score Stephens for a 3-1 Wagner lead.
The Seahawks then put the game away as they erupted for an eight run fourth for the 11-1 lead. Freshman Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster) dropped the big bomb with a grand slam to account for four of the runs. Stevens, Gallia and Iwicki each added RBI singles in the frame, while Batistelli forced in another run with a bases loaded walk.
Junior Dara Gaziala (E. Brunswick, NJ / E. Brunswick) improved to 10-3 on the hill with the complete game victory scattering seven hits, while posting three Ks.
Stephens scored three times, while drawing three walks and getting hit by a pitch. Gallagher would extend her hitting streak to 13 games.
Wagner returns to action at home on Wednesday at 3:00 pm in a non conference DH vs Temple.
