Game Two Box
Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawks took out the broom in a 9-0 and 8-3 sweep of Northeast Conference opponent St. Francis (NY) at the Lower Field today. The victories run the Wagner win streak to four straight and improves the league record to 6-2 and the overall mark to 22-14.
Junior Morgan Miller (Las Vegas, NV / Silverado) started off the day with her sixth shutout of the season to set a new single season record at Wagner. Miller struckout five in the game, improving to 13-6 on the year while allowing five hits, and just one in the final three innings.
Junior Christina Hopkins (Edison, NJ / Edison) kept her hot bat going in the first game going 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Hopkins doubled and scored in the first, then dropped a three run double down the right field line to put the Seahawks up 4-0 in the second.
Wagner went up 5-0 in the third on a double by freshman Jaclyn Vanore (Palisades Park, NJ / Paramus Catholic) and a RBI single from classmate Andrea Lazzari (Reno, NV / Wooster).
The Seahawks then closed the game out in the bottom of the fourth scoring four runs to enforce the mercy rule. Senior Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) started the scoring with a two run triple into center and then scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Victoria Batistelli (Huntington Beach, CA / Huntington Beach). Lazzari then doubled in Vanore later in the inning to complete the scoring.

In game two, Amanda Pileggi ripped a solo home run in the first to stake the Terriers (2-39; 0-10 NEC) to a 1-0 lead. The Seahawks would even the score in the bottom of the second after a Lazzari single and a RBI double from sophomore Margaret Gallia (Las Vegas, NV / Community College HS).
Wagner would make it 2-1 in the third as senior Christy Sykora (Orland Park, IL / Carl Sandburg) singled and came into score on a two out infield hit from Gallagher. Sophomore Katie Sevens (Reno, NV / Wooster) then doubled off the top of the left center field fence in the fourth to make it 3-1 for the Seahawks.
Gallagher continued the one run innings in the fifth with a solo home run into left. The homer was her sixth of the season, and fourth in the last five games. She would finish the day with four hits and five RBI.
After the Terriers plated an unearned run in the top of the sixth the Seahawks finally broke out in the bottom of the inning. After Wagner loaded the bases on a pair of errors and an infield single Batistelli cleared them with a double into the left center gap. Sykora also knocked in a run during the inning legging out a suicide squeeze as pinch runner
Jaclyn Funk (Clark, NJ / Arthur Johnson) scored from third.
Sarah Purtle would add her first home run of the season in the seventh to account for the other Terrier run.
Junior Dara Gadziala (E. Brunswick, NJ / E. Brunswick) improved to 8-3 on the year as she tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in the game. Gadziala allowed just four hits in the game, surrendering the two earned runs on the long ball.
Wagner continues NEC play on the road this Saturday as they travel to Mount St. Mary's for a twin bill.
