Women's Tennis Falls In Home Finale To St. Francis (PA) 4-3

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Wagner College Seahawks dropped their home finale 4-3 to St. Francis (PA) on Saturday, April 8. With the loss, Wagner falls to 3-12 and 2-5 in the Northeast Conference.

SFPA took the match on the strength of winning the doubles point after the two teams split the six single points.

Senior Megan Owen (Central Islip, NY / Central Islip) got things rolling at No. 2 singles, winning her final home match over Danielle Gauthier 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Pooja Patel (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) also rolled in straight sets at No. 4, defeating Mallary Palmer 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) needed three sets to defeat Lauren Gamerro, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

At No. 3 singles, sophomore Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, JA / Saint Andrew's) dropped a heartbreater to Eva Keresztes 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) lost at No. 6 singles to Johnna Jackson 7-6, 6-1. Freshman Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) was forced to retire at No. 1 singles due to injury.

In doubles play, Gauthier and Keresztes defeated Frazza and Crane 8-5 at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Owen and Mahtani lost to Ionescu and Palmer 8-5. Boyd and senior Kim Pecinovsky (Plympton, MA / Silver Lake Regional) fell to Gamerro and Jackson 8-4.

Wagner returns to action on Thursday, April 13 at 2 pm when they travel to Rider.
