Box Score

EMMITSBURG, MD - The Wagner College Seahawks could not hold on to a 6-1 lead in the as Mount St. Mary's took advantage of a few Wagner miscues, scoring five unearned runs on their way to an 8-7 victory while taking two of three from the Green & White in the series. The Seahawks are now 5-20 and 4-2 in the NEC while the Mount improves to 12-14 and 5-4 in the NEC.

The Seahawks were led by the bottom part of the order as the No. 6-No. 9 batters combined to go 6-12 with five doubles, six RBI and six runs.

Like they have done in the first two games of the series, Wagner struck first as senior Mike Picarello (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) doubled down the left-field line plating junior Pat Rogers (Middletown, NJ / St. John's), who had led off the inning with a single, to make it 1-0 in the top of the second. Junior Joseph DiGeronimo (Hawthorne, NJ / Hawthorne) continued his hot hitting later that inning when he drove in Picarello with a single up the middle.

The Mount manufactured one run in the bottom of the inning following a lead-off double to make it 2-1. Wagner struck next and went up 3-1 in the top of the fourth when freshman Pete Delleani's (Manalapan, NJ / CBA) sacrifice fly brought home sophomore Dan Morvay (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial), who had led off the inning with a double.

In the top of the sixth, Morvay reached on an error with one out. He was then brought home on Picarello's second double of the game. Delleani followed him with a double of his own, driving in Picarello to make it 5-1 before sophomore Joe Testa (Brick, NJ / Brick) concluded the Seahawks' biggest inning of the day with a RBI single to make it 6-1 in favor of the Seahawks.

As they have done all series, the Mountaineers refused to go away. In the bottom part of the sixth, the Mount drew a leadoff walk before three-straight hits made the score 6-3 Wagner while forcing the Seahawks to their bullpen. Junior Dan Lanzano (E. Brunswick, NJ / E. Brunswick) came in and after a sacrifice bunt got out of a second and third one out situation without allowing a run.

The Mount continued their comeback in the bottom of the seventh as they scored five unearned runs off Lanzano, benefiting from two Seahawk errors, to go up by an insurmountable margin of 8-6.

Wagner got one back in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Testa, but would get no closer, losing 8-7.

Lanzano gave up five unearned runs in 1.2 innings, falling to 2-4 on the year. Freshman Andrew Huebner (Hatfield, PA / North Penn) started and pitched well for the Green & White, striking out four and giving up three runs in 5.0 innings.

DiGeronimo once again led the Wagner offense as he recorded multiple hits for the ninth time in his last 10 games, going 3-4. Picarello turned in his best offensive-game of the year going 2-3 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs while Testa was 2-3 with a double and two RBI, rounding out the top offensive standouts for Wagner.

The Seahawks look to rebound tomorrow, April 11 at 3:30 pm when they head to Stony Brook.
