Box Score
BALTIMORE, MD - The Wagner College Seahawks dropped their third straight game to open the season earlier today to #17 Loyola 19-4 at Geppi-Aikens Field.
The Greyhounds sprinted out of the gates scoring the game's first four goals before freshman midfielder Brian Poissant (Manlius, NY / Fayetteville Manlius) ended the Seahawks scoring drought with his first collegiate goal at the 5:30 mark of the first period. Loyola then answered with three-straight goals before junior attacker Taylor Poschmann (Cold Spring Harbor, NY / Cold Spring Harbor) fired one in with 10 seconds remaining in the first to make it 7-2 Loyola after one.
The second period started out much like the first as the Greyhounds scored three straight goals, making it 10-2 before senior midfielder Tom Marchetti (Washington, DC / Gonzaga) scored off a Poschmann pass to cut it to 10-3.
Loyola would tack on nine more goals in the last two periods until freshman attackman Evan Shull (Port Jefferson Station, NY / Comsewogue) connected on the Seahawks' fourth goal of the game off a Mike Coleman (Jr., Rainbow Lakes, NJ / Boonton) pass. Shull's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
Facing a barrage of shots, senior goalie Chris Sochacki (Brant Beach, NJ / Shawnee) turned in another stellar outing, making 16 saves in goal for the Green & White.
Despite the lopsided score, the Seahawks were much improved attempting 20 shots today after only getting five off in their last game at Delaware. However, the Greyhounds attempted 52 shots and won the battle of the ground balls (56-28) and the face-offs (19-7).
The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, March 11 at 1 pm when they play at Lafayette as they attempt to win their second-straight meeting with the Leopards, after taking last year's game 8-7.
