Seahawks Fall in NEC Opener at Mount, 14-5

Emmitsburg, MD - The Seahawks started out their 2006 Northeast Conference slate this afternoon with a 14-5 road loss at Mount St. Mary's. Wagner moved to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the league. Mount, the defending champ, is now 3-6; 1-0 NEC.

Five different players scored in the game for Wagner, which played even thorughout the first eight minutes of play. Senior Darby Biggart (Crownsville, MD / Arch. Spalding) scored the games first goal off an assist from sophomore Brianne Fitzgerald (Ridge, NY / Longwood). Mount would then follow with two straight scores, before Jess Ellis (Fairport, NY / Fairport) even the count at 2-2 for Wagner. Ellis, who missed the last three games due to injury, scored on a free position shot at the 24:09 mark.

Three consecutive goals by Mount over the next 13 minutes, gave them a 5-2 lead the Seahawks would not be able to overcome. Senior Heather George (W. Allenhurst, NJ / Ocean Township) would score at 8:25 on a free position shot, but two more Mountaineer goals left Wagner down 6-3 at halftime.

The Seahawks drought continued in the second half as four straight Mount goals gave them a 10-3 advantage with 15 minutes left and control of the game.

Freshmen Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA / Jenkintown) and Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY / Westhill) added scores later in the game for the Seahawks, which were out shot 27-25.

Senior Nicole Cipollone (Swathmore, PA / Ridley) and junior Virginia Hernandez (Huntington Station, NY / Walt Whitman) each had four ground balls to lead Wagner.

Ellie Keener (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), who has 12 goals in her last three games, recorded three markers and an assist against Wagner. Jenna Duffy (Bel Air, Md./Catholic) added two goals and an assist while Lauren Reymann (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), Leeann Robustelli (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Kathleen Rossetti (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) each found the twine twice in the winning effort.

Wagner held an 11-10 lead in draw controls.

The Seahawks are back in action on Wednesday vs Manhattan to kick off a five game homestand.
