Northridge, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team was edged by 17th ranked Cal State Northridge 13-11 in overtime dropping their record to 11-8. In a back and forth game the Matadors outscored the Seahawks three to one in the extra sessions to take the victory. Wagner took the lead late in the fourth quarter 10-9 on a goal by freshman Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) but Northridge tied the score not long after to force the overtime.
The game began with each team trading goals until Stacey Travous (New Ulm,MN/Cumberland Valley) tipped home a lob pass from Amber McMichael (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) to even the score at four after one. Wagner used more goals by Travous and Maichrowicz to give Wagner a two goal advantage headed into halftime. A goal by sophomore Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) would give the Green & White the lead midway through the third period, however Northridge would answer back with a goal of their own, once again tying the game, this time at nine as the contest moved to the fourth period.
Junior Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) started in goal for Wagner and tallied eleven saves.
