San Bernardino, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team rebounded from a loss to Cal Baptist earlier in the day to take previously top ranked Cal State San Bernardino by a count of 10-9. Sophomore utility Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) tallied the game winning score with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter. Freshman Jennifer Anderson (Whittier, CA/La Serna) made the start in net and tallied seven saves preserving the victory to put the Seahawks at 11-7 on the year.
The Coyotes jumped out early with two scores to take the quick 2-0 lead but Wagner answered back with scores by Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) and Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, TA/Temple City) to even things at 2-2 after one. A period later the game was again tied this time at four headed to the second half. San Bernardino got their offense cooking in the third period notching four goals, however sophomore Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego) scored two of her five goals for the game in the third quarter keeping the contest close at 8-6 after three. Hoelck leads the Seahawks in scoring with 46 goals averaging just over 2.5 scores a contest.
The fourth quarter brought on two more Hoelck goals and a score by Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) to make up the deficit until Karimzad's winner sealed the deal. The Green & White are next in action tomorrow with three contests against the likes of top 20 ranked Cal State Northridge, as well as Cal Lutheran and Macalester.
