Riverside, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team picked up their eighth win of the season knocking off the Falcons of the Air Force Academy by a score of 15-5. The Seahawks received big offensive contributions out of senior Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) and junior Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) who scored four and three goals respectively.
Freshman Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) tallied three goals in a game in which Wagner never trailed. For the second straight games goalies Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and Jennifer Anderson (Whittier, CA/La Serna) teamed to shutdown the opposition saving seven shots.
The Green & White came out on fire in the first when Stacey Travous (New Ulm,MN./Cumberland Valley) and Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) opened the scoring with a a goal apiece. Peterson tacked on two goals to close out the scoring in the first and Wagner was in control 4-0. The Falcons rallied with two straight goals to start off the second stanza but Crase responded with back to back goals of her own to put Wagner up 6-2 heading into intermission.
The third quarter saw the Seahawks win the goal battle 4-2 with junior Anne Wolkenhauer (Fullerton,CA/Fullerton) finishing off the frame with a goal as Wagner was up 10-4 after three. Wolkenhauer was also a kleptomanic on defense registering a season high seven steals. The fourth quarter saw Crase open and close the period with a goal. In between all of that Maichrowicz came up with three straight goals the first of which was the result of a four meter penalty.
Wagner is next in action tomorrow when they take on Michigan State and Colorado State in games held at Cal State San Bernardino.
