Riverside, CA-- The Wagner College women's water polo team snapped a three game losing streak when they upended the Banana Slugs of UC-Santa Cruz by a count of 11-5. The win moves the Seahawks record to 7-6. The Green & White were led by sophomore Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) who tallied three goals, two on four meter penalties. Hoelck added one assist, one steal, and drew three ejections. The duo of Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and Jennifer Anderson (Whittier, CA/La Serna) combined to shut down Santa Cruz allowing just five goals while redirecting eight shots.

Wagner used a dominating first quarter to set the tone for the game. Two Hoelck goals sandwiched scores by Sara Kramer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Stacey Travous (New Ulm,MN/Cumberland Valley) and after the first period the Seahawks were leading 5-2.

Amber McMichael (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) made her first start of the season and answered with a goal in the second quarter pushing Wagner's lead to four goals at the half 6-2. The third quarter was once again all Wagner as Travous opened the period with a goal. That was followed by junior Anne Wolkenhauer (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton) cashing in a rebounded shot for her fifth goal of the season and then senior Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) depositing two into the net to build what would become an insurmountable lead 10-2 after three. The Banana Slugs would rally with three straight goals late but it was not enough as the Seahawks went on for the victory.

Wagner is next in action later today when they take on Air Force.
