Pomona-Pitzer edges Seahawks 10-8

Pomona, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team lost their third straight game as they fell to the Hens of Pomona-Pitzer by a score of 10-8. The loss pushes Wagner's record to the .500 mark at 6-6. The back and forth duel saw junior Stacey Travous (New Ulm,MN/Cumberland Valley) lead the Seahawks in scoring with four goals. Sophomore Billy Hoelck (San Diego,CA/U. of San Diego HS) also chipped in with a goal and three assists.

It was a sluggish start for the Green & White as they were blanked in the first period 3-0. The Hens then notched the first goal of the second quarter before freshman Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) broke through in the scoring column making the game 4-1 in favor of the home team. Travous would run off her first two goals to close out the scoring in the first half leaving the Seahawks down 5-3 after two. Travous continued her personal 4-0 run as she opened the scoring in the third quarter with back to back goals to even the game at five with 5:01 to go in the third. A Hoelck goal would retie the game at six before Pomona-Pitzer took a 7-6 lead headed into the final stanza.

The Seahawks fell into a two goal hole in the fourth before seniors Sara Kramer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) tallied a goal apiece to again tie the score at eight with just two minutes remaining in the game. However with 1:12 to go the Hens would take the lead for good at 9-8 and go on for the win 10-8. Wagner is next in action Saturday with games against UC Santa Cruz and Air Force at Cal Baptist.
