St. Francis (NY) Shoots Their Way To 71-54 Win Over Wagner

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - Tiffany Hill's 26 points and four three pointers paced a red-hot St. Francis (NY) attack that hit 11 three pointers in the Terriers' 71-54 victory over the Wagner College Seahawks earlier tonight at the Pope Center while extending the Seahawks losing streak to 11 games and their road losing-streak to 15 games.

With the loss Wagner falls to 1-21 and 1-12 in the NEC while St. Francis (NY) improves to 4-20 and 3-12 in the NEC.

Up 32-28 at the half, St. Francis (NY) came out of the lockers red-hot with a 18-4 run punctuated by four three pointers, three by Hill, to go up 50-32 with 14:30 remaining. From that point, the Seahawks would have to play catch-up, cutting the deficit to 13 with 2:23 remaining but would get no closer as the Terriers won going away 71-54.

Sophomore guard Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) led four double-digit Seahawk scorers with 12 points while handing out a career-high six assists. Senior guard Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) hit for 11 points, classmate Joyce Queiroz (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Colegio Spinosa) also had 11 points and junior guard Ashley Robinson (Joliet, IL / Regina Dominican) connected for a season-high 10 points to go with five rebounds and two steals. Also standing out on the defensive end was sophomore center Ali Ridge (Barrington, IL / Fremd), who had a game-high nine rebounds and six blocks to go along with six points.

Wagner came out strong in the early going up 12-6 with 14:18 to go in the first half. The Terriers immediately answered following a 30-second timeout with three-straight three pointers, starting a trend that would eventually lead to the Seahawks demise to regain the lead at 15-12. The teams would go back and forth the rest of the half and following Ridge's two baskets right before halftime the Green & White went into the lockers down only 32-28.

For the game, the Seahawks shot a solid 42.3 percent (22-52) from the floor, but were outshot by St. Francis (NY), which hit 47.3 percent (26-55) from the field, including 52.4 percent (11-21) three-point land. The Seahawks in comparison knocked down only four three pointers.

Kara Ayers also had 18 points off the bench, on the strength of five three pointers, complementing Hill's game-high 26 points.

Wagner takes a short break before returning home to host Central Connecticut State on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 pm in the Spiro Sports Center.

NOTES: Opponents have shot .393 from behind the arc against the Seahawks in their 12 road games compared to just .241 in the friendly confines of the Spiro Sports Center this year ... The Terriers' 11 three pointers were the most allowed by the Seahawks this season ... With her six blocks Ridge now has 53 for the season and 100 for her career ... Her total of 53 is the third-best single-season mark and her 100 total rejections rank her fourth all-time in career blocks as she passed Ashley Linscott (96) ... Today's game marked the first time Wagner has had four players score in double figures since Feb. 21, 2005 at Monmouth, a span of 24 games.
