Fairfield, CT - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team lost a 4-0 game to Sacred Heart University at Campus Field in a Northeast Conference battle. They now move to a record of (0-11-0) overall and (0-2-0) in the NEC.
The Pioneers came out firing against the Wagner defense right out of the gate as they managed to release four shots on Seahawk sophomore goalkeeper Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite) in the opening minutes. She managed to make two big saves to salvage the game up to that point, one of the shots ricocheted off the cold iron of the crossbar.
Wagner was able to hold off the Pioneers from attacking until the 27th minute of the game when Sacred Heart sophomore Britney Dupee found an opening and connected on a goal to make it a 1-0 advantage for the home squad.
The Pioneers would tack on one more goal before the halftime interregnum.
Wagner had a tough time attacking the Sacred Heart defensive front as they only were able to get two shots away, only one of them a shot on goal, this came in the 32nd minute when sophomore back Stephanie Burnett (Cocoa Beach, FL/Satellite) ripped off a ferocious blast that was saved by Pioneer gatekeeper Ashley Mocarski.
Unfortunately for the Seahawks, it was the Pioneers' game the rest of the way as they would have four different players score a goal before the 90 minutes expired.
Those four goals would be the final as Wagner failed to find the back of the net.
As for Wagner's goalkeeping, Leslie Reed spent all 90 minutes between the pipes where she collected five saves on the day.
The Seahawks next game is this Sunday as they resume their road campaign to face NEC opponent Farleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, New Jersey at 1 p.m.
