Oct. 20, 2006

Box Score

Loretto, PA - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team lost a match-up 2-0 to St. Francis (7-6-2, 3-1-2) at DeGol Field in a Northeast Conference battle this afternoon. They now move to a record of (1-14-0) overall and (1-5-0) in the NEC.

The Seahawks kept up with the Red Flash for much of the game as they both remained entangled in an unpermissive stalemate going into the halftime intermission.

The second half, however, was much different.

In the 66th minute the Red Flash began to take ownership of the game. Red Flash player Brittni Grenninger took a pass from Alanna Vespa and made the Seahawks pay with a goal in the lower left from 13 yards out.

Less than twenty minutes later Vespa scored a goal of her own for the home team as she took an assist from Ashlie Knowles and booted the ball into the lower right from six yards to essentially seal the game for the Red Flash and hand the Seahawks their fifth defeat in NEC Conference play.

Wagner had a tough time getting good looks on goal all afternoon as only three Seahawks were successful in posting a shot on goal. They were sophomore Stephanie Burnett (Cocoa Beach, FL/Satellite), senior Heather Daubert (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley), and senior Jenn Schweizer (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial).

As for the Wagner goalkeeping, senior Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA/Upper Darby) spent all 90 minutes between the pipes, recording seven saves in the process.

The Seahawks stay in Western Pennsylvania for another away match this Sunday when they take on NEC opponent Robert Morris University in Moon Township at 1 p.m.
