Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team beat Quinnipiac University (8-4-2, 2-2-2) - who came into the game tied for third in the NEC - this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium for their first victory of the season. The Seahawks get over the hump and now improve to a record of (1-13-0) overall and (1-4-0) in the NEC.

Wagner came out of the gate from the start and controlled the game, as they consistently held the ball in Quinnipiac territory and threatened to score.

That opportunity came relatively early as the Seahawks took their first lead of the year only 12 minutes into the game. It unfolded when freshman forward Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) drove a cross to senior midfielder Heather Daubert (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) who finished the execution by depositing the ball pass the Bobcat goalkeeper for a score from 15 yards out on the left side.

Daubert's first goal of the year - and Keany's second assist on the season - gave the Seahawks a momentum-inducing 1-0 advantage that would remain going into the halftime intermission.

After the break the momentum stuck, as it was all green and white for the rest of the contest. Despite losing the battle of the shots - the Bobcats got off 14 to the Seahawks 8 - Wagner made the most of their opportunities and maintained control by besting the opposition in corner kicks, 7-4.

The final straw that would break the Bobcats' proverbial back and de-claw their hopes of firing up the bus to go back to Hamden victorious came in the 73rd minute. Senior midfielder Jenn Schweizer (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) booted a point blank shot passed the Quinnipiac goalkeeper after getting back her own rebound from a previous shot and found the back of the net to seal the inaugural victory for Wagner.

It was the senior's first goal of her career.

As for the Seahawk goalkeeping, sophomore Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/Satellite) and senior Ashley Wilson (Secane, PA/Upper Darby) combined on the shutout. Reed - who made five saves on the afternoon - was spelled by Wilson - who finished with three saves - just before halftime.

Reed was credited with the win and improved to a record of 1-6-0 on the year.

The Seahawks' next contest is on the road against St. Francis in Loretto, Pa. this Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
