Sullivan's Career-High 20 Points Not Enough As Wagner Falls To Providence 79-55

PROVIDENCE, RI - Sophomore guard Megan Sullivan's (Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) career-high 20 points off the bench were not enough as the Providence Friars powered past the Wagner Seahawks 79-55 earlier tonight at Mullaney Gymnasium. Providence improves to 4-7 with their third-straight win while the Seahawks fall to 0-9.

Sullivan's game-high 20 points came on just 7-10 shooting, including 4-7 from behind the arc, to go along with a team-high six rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes.

Down 45-23 at the half, Wagner came out of the locker room on a 12-5 run to cut the deficit to 15 at 50-35 with 13:18 remaining. However, the Seahawks would get no closer as Providence outscored the Green & White the rest of the way 29-20 on their way to a 79-55 win.

With Wagner up 9-8 in the first half, Providence went on a 17-2 run over the next 4:34 to go up 25-11. The Friars would cruise into halftime with a 45-23 lead on the strength of 7-13 shooting from behind the arc.

Despite being plagued by foul trouble the entire game, sophomore guard Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) rounded out the Wagner double-figure scorers with 14 points on 7-14 shooting in just 22 minutes of action.

The Seahawks shot 35.0 percent (21-60) from the floor for the game while the Friars hit at a 41.9-percent clip (26-62). Wagner was outrebounded for the eighth time in nine games this season 49-34.

Shauna Snyder and Catherine Bove led four double-figure Friar scorers with 14 points apiece.

The Green & White will now return home to complete their non-conference slate with a game against Columbia on Friday, Dec. 30 at 4 pm.

Notes: Sullivan's previous career-high was 12 points, which she achieved on two occasions most recently vs. CCSU on Feb. 24, 2005 ... Sullivan posted the sixth 20+ point game by a Seahawk this year ... The Seahawks are now 3-26 all-time against Big East schools and 3-40 vs. BCS conference schools.
