Wagner Falls In Home Opener To New Hampshire 74-52

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Using a balanced scoring-attack, in which all 11 Wildcat players scored, New Hampshire spoiled the Wagner's home-opener defeating the Seahawks by a score of 74-52 earlier tonight at the Spiro Sports Center. With the loss the Seahawks remain winless at 0-4 while the Wildcats improve to 4-1.

The Seahawks played well to start the game and held a 20-13 advantage midway through the first half after back to back three-pointers from senior guard Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) and junior guard Ashley Robinson (Joliet, IL / Regina Dominican). New Hampshire would then run off 10 straight points over the next five minutes as they went on top 25-20 with 5:45 to play in the opening stanza. Sophomore guard Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) then quickly answered with a jumper on the Seahawks next possession. The offensive struggles then began for Wagner as the team managed just one field goal over the final five minutes, shooting 1-8 from the floor and trailed 31-24 at half time.

In the second half, the Seahawks cut the lead to four at 31-27 before Wildcats blew the game open with a 40-17 run over the next 15:36 that pushed the lead to 71-44 with 3:11 to go.

New Hampshire dominated in the paint outscoring the Seahawks 34-14 and scored 23 points off 18 Wagner turnovers compared to just five points for Wagner off seven Wildcat turnovers. New Hampshire shot 43.8 percent from the floor (28-64) while the Seahawks shot at a 36.4 percent clip (20-55).

Bunyer led Wagner with 13 points on 6-12 shooting to go along with five rebounds. Gallagher had 12 points and Robinson had a solid game in her first start of the year with nine points and six assists.

Ray Williams had 19 points, on 9-10 shooting off the bench, to lead 11 scorers for New Hampshire.

The Green & White return to the road Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 pm when the Seahawks head to the nation's capital to take on the American Eagles.

NOTES: The Seahawks are now 22-14 in home openers, but have lost five in a row and six of seven ... Walk-on freshman guard Casey Stokes (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin) scored her first collegiate points with a three-pointer and two free throws ... After not scoring any points in the first three games of the year, Ashley Robinson had nine points on a career-best tying three three's to go along with six assists.
