Wagner Drops 77-53 Decision to La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Despite a game-high 21 points from senior guard Joy Gallagher (Hazleton, PA / Hazleton) the Wagner College Seahawks lost to the La Salle Explorers 77-53 earlier this afternoon at Tom Gola Arena. With the loss Wagner falls to 0-3 on the year while the Explorers improve to 2-2.

La Salle jumped out to an early 29-8 first-half lead, including a 14-0 run that spanned 4:30, and cruised into halftime with a 49-22 lead after shooting a blistering 55.6 percent (20-36) from the floor.

With La Salle up 52-22 in the second half, the Seahawks went on a 21-8 run over 8:53 to cut the lead to 60-43. During the run Gallagher hit for 13 of the Seahawks' 21 points, including three three's.

Gallagher scored 17 of her game-high 21 point in the second half and shot 9-18 from the floor, including 7-11 in the second half, to go along with 5 rebounds.

The Explorers would counter with a 17-10 run to close out the game and the Seahawks 77-53.

The Seahawk defense put the clamps on the Explorers in the second half holding them to just 27.6 percent shooting. For the game, the Explorers shot 43.1 percent (28-65) while the Seahawks hit at 39.0 percent (23-59). La Salle won the battle of the boards (40-35) and shot 43.1 percent (8-19) from behind the arc compared to just 20.0 percent (3-15) for the Seahawks. The Explorers were 13-16 for 81.3 percent at the charity stripe while the Seahawks only attempted six free throws, making four.

Sophomore center Ali Ridge (Barrington, IL / Fremd) had a strong game with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds in 24 minutes of action off the bench.

Sophomore guard Chelsey Bunyer (Shannon, IL / Eastland) rounded out the double-digit Seahawk scorers with 10 points.

Crista Ricketts, Davineia Payne and Shaune McLaughlin paced five double-digit scorers for La Salle with 13 points apiece.

The Green & White will next be in action Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 pm when the Seahawks host New Hampshire in their home opener at the Spiro Sports Center.
