Maertz Qualifies For U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship

2014 USGA Public Links Championship

Lopatcong, NJ –
Noelle Maertz (Clark, NJ/Mother Seton), who recently completed her sophomore season at Wagner by earning Second-Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors, qualified for next month's 2014 U.S. Women's Public Links Amateur Championship on Tuesday.

The Architect's Club served as one of 23 qualifying sites for the U.S. Public Links Championship, one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association (USGA), which will be contested July 14-19 at The Home Course in DuPont, Washington.

Maertz fired a 79 to tie for the fifth and final spot with Tina Chang of Mineola, NY, before birdying the first extra-hole of the playoff with Chang. The Garden State native becomes the first Wagner women's golfer to ever qualify for this prestigious event, which is open to all women amateur golfers who do not belong to a private club.

"This is a tremendous individual accomplishment for Noelle and a really proud moment and a nice compliment for our women's golf program," said Seahawk head coach Christopher Fourman. "The more Noelle is exposed to these type of national events, and the more experience she gains in competing against such high-level competition, the more of a force she will become in the NEC."

The long-hitting Maertz finished second on the 2013- 2014 Seahawk squad with an 18-holf average of 80.2 strokes per found. The NEC Golfer of the Week for the week of April 2, Maertz took home the bronze at the Navy Chesapeake Bay Invitational (9/22) with an overall score of 154 (77-77), before earning another third-place finish at the Seahawk Spring Invitational (4/7), where she totaled 163 (77-86).

Prior to arriving on Grymes Hill, Maertz was a three-time conference champion and two-time league champion at Mother Seton and capped her standout scholastic career by being named the 2012 Home News Tribune Girls Golfer of the Year. The highly-decorated Maertz won the 2012 New Jersey Women's Public Links Championship.
