Furrie, Maertz Earn All-NEC Accolades

Somerset, NJ – Freshman Ariana Furrie (St. Charles, IL / St. Charles North) was recognized as the 2014 Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the All-Conference Second Team alongside sophomore Noelle Maertz (Brooklyn, NY / Mother Seton), as announced by the conference earlier this afternoon.

Furrie paced the Wagner squad with an 81.0 per-round average. The freshman's best finish of the season came at the Seahawk Spring Invitational (4/7), where she totaled 158 (78/80) for a second-place finish. Furrie earned another top-10 finish at the Lonnie Barton Invitational (3/10), finishing in seventh-place with a score of 156 (78/78). Furrie capped off her freshman campaign with a tenth-place finish at this year's NEC Championship (4/25), shooting a 236 (82/77/77).

Maertz, NEC Golfer of the Week for the week of April 2, also had a pair of notable finishes, first taking home the bronze at the Navy Chesapeake Bay Invitational (9/22) with an overall score of 154 (77/77), before earning another third-place finish at the Seahawk Spring Invitational (4/7), where she totaled 163 (77/86).  Maertz averaged 80.2 per-round this season.

Fairleigh Dickinson's Mariana Juaristi and Robert Morris' Halley Morell were named the 2014 NEC Women's co-Golfers of the Year. Saint Francis U's Mary Kate Williams was voted NEC Coach of the Year.
