Staten Island, NY – Wagner College held its 29th annual Senior Awards Banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn on Tuesday night as the college recognized, honored and bid farewell to its 88 senior student-athletes.
Delivering the opening messages were Wagner College President
Richard Guarasci and Athletic Director
Walt Hameline.
The keynote speaker was longtime professional football executive and former New York Jets General Manager
Mike Tannenbaum. In his comments, Tannenbaum emphasized to the soon-to-be college graduates the importance of applying the leadership skills honed at Wagner, both in the classroom and on the playing field, into their careers in the work force. The award presentation portion of the program began with the ECAC Merit Awards which are granted to the male and female graduating Wagner student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA. This year's winners were
Matthew McGuinness (West Caldwell, NJ/ Caldwell) of the football team, who earned a 3.9560 GPA majoring in business administration, and water polo's
Tatum Colitz (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson), who had a 3.963 GPA in English.
The teams with the highest GPA's were men's tennis, which accrued an average GPA of 3.485, and swimming & diving, which held the highest GPA of all women's teams at 3.489.

Steve Ciocci (Royersford, PA / Spring-Ford / (Temple University) who has been involved in a myriad of civic program. Ciocci was one of just 22 football players from around the nation
named to the AFCA Good Works Team last September.
The Business Person of the Year award, sponsored by Bridge Financial, an Office of Met Life, is awarded annually to the top male or female student athlete with the highest GPA who majors in the business field. This year, the Business Person of the Year, with a GPA of 3.928 in business administration, was women's soccer player
Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY/ Notre Dame Academy).
The 2012-13 Student Athlete Advisory Award (S.A.A.C.) goes to the student-athlete who demonstrated the most school spirit and support of his or her fellow student-athletes. This year's winner was softball player
Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run).
The awards for the Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year are sponsored annually by Con Edison and presented by Public Affairs Specialist Katia Gordon. The awards go to those two individuals who demonstrate the values of courtesy, concern, teamwork, honesty, and respect. The winners of the 2013 Con Edison Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards were Patrick O'Connor (Leominster, MA/ Leominster) of the football team and
Laura Karbach (Abington, PA / Germantown Academy) of the water polo team.
Each Seahawk head coach offered comments on his or her seniors. Among the Wagner coaches, three were specifically recognized for earning conference coach of the year honors;

2012 NEC Football Coach of the Year),
Colin Shannahan (
2012-13 NEC Swimming Coach of the Year) and
Chris Radmonovich (
2013 MAAC Water Polo Coach of the Year).
The team with the largest number of seniors was football with 27. This group was led by senior captains
Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic), a record-setting four-year captain, linebacker #C.O. Prime# (Laval, Quebec/ The Kent School), who has
signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, and defensive back Patrick O'Connor.
