Radmonovich, Lundgren Steal Show at MAAC Water Polo Awards Banquet

MAAC Release

Poughkeepsie, NY
– Chris Radmonovich and Jess Lundgren were the big winners at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Water Polo Awards Banquet Friday night, as Radmonovich won MAAC Coach of the Year and Lundgren took Rookie of the Year. Additionally, Jessica Burdge, Rachel Burns, and Laura Karbach were also named All-Conference.

This was the first career Coach of the Year award for Radmonovich, who has guided his team to a 25-10 record in his third season. Wagner is the #1 seed in the MAAC Tournament, and was the regular season MAAC Co-Champions, in a three-way tie with Marist and Iona.

"Winning Coach of the Year is not what I have done, but what the players have done," Radmonovich said. "They have played great all season and this award goes to prove that."

Radmonovich along with Head Football Coach Walt Hameline and Head Women's Swimming and Diving Coach Colin Shannahan have all earned a conference Coach of the Year award throughout the 2012-13 season at Wagner.

Lundgren, the Queensland, Australia (Mountain Creek) native came to Wagner this year as a highly touted recruit for the Seahawks. The freshman did not disappoint, scoring 59 goals on the season, while adding 34 assists, nine field blocks, and grabbing a school record 115 steals. Along with earning Rookie of the Year, Lundgren was named First-Team All-MAAC, and was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week of March 26.

Burdge, (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) was the leading scorer not only for Seahawks, but for the entire MAAC this season, netting a Wagner school record 111 goals. The sophomore was named to First-Team All-MAAC for the first time, capping an impressive second season in which she earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week four times.

Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan School for Girls) and Karbach (Abington, PA / Germantown Academy) were both named Second-Team All-MAAC for their defensive efforts on the season. The goalie, Karbach, earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week five times throughout the season, the most of any player in the conference.

The MAAC Championships begin tomorrow at 3:00 pm for Wagner, who will face Villanova in the semi-final matchup. The winner will advance to the MAAC Championship game to be played Sunday, against the winner of the Marist/Iona semi-final.
