C.O. Prime Signs Free Agent Contract With Indianapolis Colts

Staten Island, NY – Wagner College senior linebacker  C.O. Prime  (Laval, Quebec/ The Kent School) became the latest Seahawk to sign an NFL Free Agent Contract on Saturday night when he inked a deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

Prime, whose given name is Carl-Olivier, will be looking to follow in the footsteps of his former teammate, Julian Stanford, who signed a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in April, 2012 before going on to earn a spot on the team's final roster. Wagner has now had four players sign NFL Free  Agent Contracts in the last two years as two of Stanford's teammates, Jeremiah Brown and Quintin Anderson, signed free agent contracts last year with the Jaguars and Tampa Bay Bucs, respectively.

Stanford made a big impact on special teams early in the season which led to his earning a spot in the starting lineup in six of Jacksonville's 16 games. One of 19 players to play in all 16 games for the Jaguars, he finished his rookie campaign with 23 total tackles, including 18 solo stops. In making the Jaguars' roster, Stanford became  the first former Seahawk to appear on an active NFL regular season roster since Wagner Hall of Fame member  Rich Kotite (1967-1972).

The hard-hitting 6-1, 255-pound Prime played an integral role I in Wagner's extraordinary 2012 season  which  featured a nine-game winning streak, the school's first Northeast Conference (NEC) Football Title, a 31-20 NCAA FCS Playoff win over No. 24 Colgate, followed by a gallant effort in a 29-19 defeat at No. 4 Eastern Washington.

The Seahawks were ranked 21st  in The Sports Network Final Top-25 Poll and 22nd in the Final FCS Coaches Poll, marking the first time an NEC team has ended the season with an appearance in both official Top-25 polls,

In 2012, Prime was the leading tackler for a Seahawk defense that ranked first in the NEC in scoring defense (16.6 ppg.), total defense (310.8 yards) and pass defense efficiency (113.2). A Second-Team All-NEC selection, Prime had 98 tackles on the season, along with two forced fumbles, one interception, one pass breakup and one recovered fumble. His 7.4 tackles per game average ranked eighth in the NEC.

“I know I speak for our entire coaching staff in professing just how proud I am of C.O. and  that his hard work and talent is being rewarded with an opportunity to compete for a spot in the NFL,” said Seahawk head coach Walt Hameline. “What strikes you about C.O. is his consistency. He approaches every meeting, practice and game with a serious purpose and he combines that with a tremendous work ethic.

“As a result, he invariably puts himself in the right place at the right time which allows him to be a true play-making, difference-maker at linebacker,” Hameline added. “He's a great young man and I wish him the best.”

As a junior in 2011, Prime finished second on the team and 10th in the NEC with 81 tackles. He also recorded 1.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, three pass-breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery, His four forced fumbles tied for tops in the NEC. For his career, Prime amassed a staggering 297 tackles, including 111 solo stops.
