Somerset, NJ – Freshman midfielder
Ally Alliegro, who scored three goals, and added three ground balls and one draw control in Wagner's 11-10 overtime setback to Saint Joseph's
on Sunday, has earned her third Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week honor of the season, the league office announced on Monday.
Alliegro, who also copped NEC Rookie honors in consecutive weeks back on March 5 and March 12, is the Seahawks' leading scorer on the season with 24 points. The Bayport, NY native's point total through eight games has come on the strength of 17 goals and seven assists, each of which ranks second on the team.
In addition to being Wagner's leading scorer, the 5'6" Alliegro, who starred at Bayport Blue Point High School prior to becoming a Seahawk, is also the team leader in draw controls with 26, while adding 13 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
The 4-4 Seahawks are next in action on Wednesday, March 26 when they host Columbia at Hameline Field, with opening draw set for 6:00 p.m. The matchup between the Green & White and the Lions will mark Wagner's final non-conference game of the season.
The Seahawks, who have played in the last three NEC championship games, highlighted by claiming the 2016 NEC title, begin conference play at Robert Morris on Friday, April 6.
In addition to Alliegro's Rookie of the Week honor, senior midfielder
Lauren Ednie and sophomore defender
Lindsay Haas are among this week's #NECPrimePerfomers for their efforts vs. Saint Joseph's.
