NEC RELEASE
Somerset, NJ – On the heels of his first-place finish in the 108-man Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Invitational on Monday, where he defeated Villanova's Lucas Trim and Eric Dietrich of nationally-ranked UConn in a three-way playoff, senior
Anton Frondelius (Munkedal, Sweden / The Gunnery) has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced today.
In what Seahawk head coach
Christopher Fourman termed, "By far the single-best performance ever by a Wagner men's golfer," Frondelius claimed first-place honors at the par-72, 6,778-yard Silver Creek Country Club. The senior earned a 36-hole score of one-under par before defeating Villanova's Lucas Trim and Eric Dietrich of nationally-ranked UConn in a three-way playoff.
In second place following a two-under par 70 in Sunday's opening round, Frondelius got as low as 3-under par in the final round before finishing with a 70-73-1-under par 143 score in the par-72, 6,778-yard layout. Playing with the lead virtually the entire day, Frondelius was the first of the three playoff members to post a one-under overall score before Trim and Dietrich caught him with late rallies.
On the first extra hole, Frondelius and Dietrich made par to move on to the second hole, while Trim's bogey eliminated him from the competition. On the second hole of the playoff, Frondelius calmly sank a six-foot par putt which beat Dietrich's bogey, sending the senior from Sweden into the winner's circle.
Frondelius' NEC Golfer of the Week award was the second of his career as he
also earned this honor on October 27, 2016.
