Anton Frondelius Wins Coca-Cola Lafayette Invitational In Three-Way Playoff

FINAL RESULTS

Hellertown, PA –
Senior Anton Frondelius (Munkedal, Sweden / The Gunnery) took home first-place honors against a talented and deep 108-man field at the Coca-Cola Lafayette Invitational at Silver Creek Country Club, firing a 36-hole score of one-under par before defeating Villanova's Lucas Trim and Eric Dietrich of nationally-ranked UConn in a three-way playoff.

26016A talented and extremely long ball-striker throughout his career and a Second-Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) selection each of the last two years, Frondelius appears to be putting it all together here in his senior year.

"There's no question this is by far the single-best performance ever by a Wagner men's golfer," beamed head coach Christopher Fourman. "Anton is an extremely gifted golfer who has all the tools, all the shots. He's now combining that extraordinary talent with a maturity and an experience level that is beginning to take him to new heights. I'm very proud of Anton and excited for his rest of the season."

In second place following a two-under par 70 in Sunday's opening round, Frondelius got as low as 3-under par today before finishing with the 70-73-1-under par 143 score in the par-72, 6,778-yard event that was hosted by Lafayette University.  Frondelius, who played with the lead virtually the entire day, was the first of the three playoff members to post a one-under overall score before Trim and Dietrich caught him with late rallies.

On the first extra hole, Frondelius and Dietrich made par to move on to the second hole, while Trim's bogey eliminated him from the competition. On the second hole of the playoff, Frondelius calmly sank a six-foot par putt which beat Dietrich's bogey, sending the senior from Sweden into the winner's circle.

"Wagner has maybe had some other first-place individual finishes through the years but never in a big, 100-man-plus event with this many talented golfers," said Fourman.

The Seahawks finished 10th in the talent-rich, 19-man field. Finishing in a tie for 58th with matching scores of 158 were sophomore Lucas Moreno (Bogota, Colombia / Gimnasio Campestre) and junior Oskar Sundberg (Danderyd, Sweden / Osterakers Gymnasium). Junior Nicholas Musshafen (Fairport, NY / Fairport) placed in a tie for 70th while freshman Justin Sanchez also competed but did not factor in the Seahawks' scoring.
