Somerset, NJ - Redshirt junior attackman
Patrick McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) tallied a career-high six goals in Wagner's season-opening 15-8 victory over MAAC opponent Manhattan on Friday and was recognized for his efforts by being named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week.
McMenamin scored a pair of first-quarter goals as part of a game-opening 6-0 run. After the Jaspers cut the deficit in half with three straight second-quarter goals to make it a 6-3 game at halftime, the Seahawks scored the first two goals of the second half, with McMenamin sinkng the second score, to give him a hat trick and the Seahawks an 8-3 lead.
The gritty 5-6, 160-pound McMenamin, who has two brothers, twin brother William and older brother Michael that are fellow Seahawk midfielders, added his fourth goal of the game in the third quarter and two more in the fourth as Wagner pulled away for the 15-8 win. McMenamin, whose six goals came on 14 shots, added two ground balls in the victory.
The Seahawks will take their 1-0 record on the road one week from today when they travel to Easton, PA to meet Lafayette in a 4:00 p.m. start.
