Score SheetWhittier, CA – The #17 Wagner (11-4) women's water polo team downed Whittier (10-3) 15-8 in their seventh game in six days, improving their California series record to 5-2 and their overall record to 11-4.

The Seahawks struck first as junior center
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD/ Broadneck) broke open the scoring with a shot that whizzed past the goalies outstretched arm at the 5:49 mark of the first quarter. Whittier responded quickly with two goals of their own from Jenel Rivera and Isabella Gorrocino to take their first lead of the game with 4:46 remaining in the first stanza. Freshman
Elise Begg (Newbury Park, CA/ Newbury) tied the game with a strike of her own, however the tie was short lived as Rivera registered a goal with just one second left to give the Poets the 3-2 advantage.
The Poets extended their lead to two, with the score 4-2, as they benefited from man-up goal after a few set-up passes. Whittier and Wagner exchanged goals as Doerfler tallied her second of the contest. Reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Year
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) rattled the cage for the Seahawks to bring the vistors within a goal, as the scoreboard read 5-4 in favor of Whittier with 5:54 remaining in the second stanza.
The Green & White offense surged late in the quarter recording five of the game's next six goals. The attack was led by Doerfler who netted two more goals, increasing her period total to three and her game total to four. Californian trio comprised Lefty-specialist
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA/ San Ramon Valley), senior co-captain
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA/ St. Mary's) and
Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA/ Davis) all notched scores to increase the Seahawk lead to 9-6 at the break.
Poets sophomore attacker Zyania Morales tallied twice in the third quarter however it would be the last score for the host school. The Seahawks outscored Whittier 6-2 in the second half, holding them scoreless in the fourth period.
Doerfler found the back of the net once again to bring her goal total to five with Begg and Rodriguez each notching a score. Lundgren added two in the final quarter and
Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/ John Rennie) entered the scoring column as well.

MAAC Defensive Player of the Week,
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta/ Dr. E.P. Scarlett) registered four saves on the night.
The Seahawks are back in action Saturday, March 14 as they are set to square-off with San Diego State and Hawaii as part of the Aztec Invitational.
