Jasmine Nwajei Named NEC Co-Player of Week Following School-Record 45-Point Effort

Somerset, NJ - Junior guard Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum), who poured in a school-record 45 points at home vs. Stony Brook on Friday night in recording the the top scoring game in the nation this season, has been named Co-Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, along with Fairleigh Dickinson's Erika Livermore, the league office announced today.

The nation's No. 2 scorer last season at 24.8 ppg., Nwajei broke the previous school record of 43 points set by Stephanie Samuels nearly 30 years ago, on February 18, 1986, at Fairleigh Dickinson. The 5-8 New York City guard's previous career high was 40 vs. Columbia (12/30/14), an outing that helped her become the nation's second-leading scorer last season at 24.8 points per game.

In registering the 12th 30-point plus scoring game of her career in the 73-62 loss to Stony Brook, Nwajei moved into eighth place on the Wagner all-time career scoring list with 1,417 points. She is 13 points shy of passing Chris Anderson (1988-1992), who totaled 1,429 points during her Hall of Fame career. Against Stony Brook, Nwajei shot 16-of-40 from the floor, including 5-of-11 marksmanship from three-point range, while going 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Equally remarkable, she committed just one turnover in the game while playing the entire 40 minutes.

This marks the second time this season, and sixth time in her career, that Nwajei has been NEC Player of the Week. Back on December 7, she copped conference player of the week honors in a two-game week where she recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in leading Wagner to a 76-53 win over NJIT (12/2), before following with a 32-point performance in a 78-60 loss at Yale (12/6).
