Clearwater, FL – The Wagner softball team (7-10) defeated Florida A&M University (FAMU) 2-1 in a nail-biter of a game early this morning, before falling to host USF 6-1 this afternoon.
The Seahawks finished the weekend 3-3, having lost to
Quinnipiac and UConn on Friday,
sweeping Penn State and Saint Joseph's on Saturday, and splitting their games today.

Wagner earned its third straight win of the weekend behind strong performances from right-handed pitchers
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) and
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor), who combined to allowed just five hits. Goodale threw the first five innings of the game, tossing four strikeouts and allowing four hits, before Bedker hurled the final 1.2 innings, pitching one strike out and allowing one hit to seal the win for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks collected the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. Sophomore catcher
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA / Fountain Valley) reached on a single through the left side, before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt laid down by
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA / Stone Bridge). Freshman third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA / Manheim Central) then connected for her first career RBI, doubling to centerfield to drive in Bott.
Hayley Sullivan (Bakersfield, CA / North) registered the Green & White's go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning, after entering the game to pinch run for
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA / Valley Center), who had reached second base on a double to centerfield. Sullivan scored on
Brianna Tredway's (Downington, PA / Downington West) double down the left field line to increase Wagner's lead to 2-0.
The Rattlers threatened Seahawks' lead late in the bottom of the sixth inning, loading the bases and plating one run before Wagner's defense shutout another FAMU tally.
Though the Rattlers loaded the bases once more in the bottom of the seventh, Wagner hung on to escape with the 2-1 victory.

USF posted the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Kourtney Salvarol laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Julie Weber, who had reached on a walk before advancing to second base on a pass ball, across the plate for an unearned run.
The Seahawks evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the second inning, when
Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ / Centennial) attacked the first pitch of her at bat, sending the ball over the right field fence for her second home run of the weekend.
The Bulls mustered two more runs in the bottom of the second inning, before gathering another three runs in the bottom of the fourth to put USF in front 6-1.
Three Wagner pitchers made an appearance in the game, with
Gina Massaro (Fairless Hills, PA / Conwell-Egan Catholic) tossing the first 2.1 innings, Bedker throwing 1.0 innings, and Goodale finishing the final 2.2 innings.
The Bulls totaled five hits, with Wagner tallying four.
The Seahawks are next in action on March 20, when they play their home opener against Columbia. The teams are set to square off at 1:00 pm.
