Clearwater, FL - The Wagner softball team (4-10) dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the USF Invitational, falling to Quinnipiac University (2-11) 5-2 in the opener before succumbing to UConn (5-11) by an 8-2 decision in the nightcap.

The Bobcats broke open the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, tallying four unearned runs to make it a 4-0 game.
Wagner cut the Bobcats' lead in half in the top of the third inning, scoring two runs to make it a 4-2 game.
Aerika High (Manheim, PA / Manheim Central) led off the inning with a base hit up the middle, prior to
Brianna Tredway (Downington, PA / Downington West) reaching on an error. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, before being driven in by
Taylor Beeson's (Mesa, AZ / Red Mountain) shot up the third base line.
Quinnipiac tabbed the last run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, as the Seahawks fell 5-2 to the Bobcats.
Wagner's pitching staff allowed 10 hits over the course of the game.
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) worked the first 3.1 innings, tallying one strikeout.
Gina Massaro (Fairless Hills, PA / Conwell-Egan Catholic) finished the final 2.2 innings, allowing one hit and throwing four strikeouts.
Wagner vs. UConn
The game was scoreless in the first three innings, before the Huskies went on a scoring binge in the top of the fourth inning, when UConn's Audrey Grinnel hit a three-run homer to make it a 3-0 game.
Megan Moore (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) pushed Wagner's first run across in the bottom of the same inning, when her single knocked in
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA / Fountain Valley). Bott put herself in scoring position earlier in the inning, doubling through the left side, before advancing to third on a ground out.
UConn increased its lead to five in the top of the sixth , adding two unearned runs, before scoring another three runs in the seventh to make it an 8-1 game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Tredway doubled before being driven in by Beeson's single down the left field line for Beeson's third RBI of the day.
Wagner was unable to add to its tally, as the Huskies defeated the Seahawks 8-2.
Goodale threw the entire game, allowing 11 hits while recording seven strikeouts.
On Saturday, in the second day of the three-day USF Invitational, the Seahawks will face Penn State at 9:30 am before meeting Saint Joseph's at 2:15 pm
