Previous NEC Rookie of the Week Award Winners
Somerset, NJ – Freshman point guard
Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum) has been named Choice Hotels Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced today.
The only NEC rookie to have earned this honor four times in 2013-2014, Nwajei is one of just two first-year performers who have won it multiple times, as Sacred Heart's Adaysha Williams has copped the award on two occasions.
Nwajei, a guard, continued her role in Wagner's resurgence this past week, averaging 21.5 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds in the Seahawks' two most recent games. On February 3, the dynamic native of New York City was an integral part of Wagner's impressive 67-51 victory over first-place Robert Morris, tossing in a game-high 22-points, to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
On the defensive side, Nwajei helped to spark an effort that marked the least points allowed by Wagner this season, as RMU's 51-point output also equaled the Colonials' lowest scoring game of the season (51-39 win over UMBC – 11/23/13). Two days earlier, on February 1, she poured in 21 points in 28 minutes of floor time, while adding six assists, two rebounds and two steals, in the Seahawks' 92-78 setback to Saint Francis U.
Â
The leading rookie scorer in the NEC, Nwajei is averaging 21.6 points in league games and is at 16.1 points per game overall on the season. She has hit the 20-point mark eight times this season, including seven of the nine NEC games in which she's played.

The Seahawks, who are 4-6 in the NEC and 5-16 overall, are next in action on Saturday, February 8 when they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson to face the Knights in a 1:00 pm contest.
