Greensboro, NC – Three members of the Wagner women's swimming and diving team competed this weekend in the
2014 AT&T USA Winter National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Centeras junior
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA / Easthampton), sophomore
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI / Hawaii Preparatory Academy), and sophomore
Grace Baird (Lexington, NC / West Davidson High School) competed against some of the nation's top swimmers.
Nihipali finished 9th at the 2014 Winter Nationals in the 100 yard backstroke with a personal best time of 52.97, which broke the Wagner school and Northeast Conference (NEC) record for the 100 back, while also making the B cut NCAA time which qualifies her for a potential berth in the
2015 NCAA Swimming Championships to be held in Greensboro from March 19-21.
Lucia made it to the C Final in the 200 yard butterfly and finished 6th in her heat and 22nd overall with a time of 1:59.93 in the event. Baird competed in the 1650 yard freestyle and finished 29th overall with a time of 16:50.93.
Nihipali also competed in the 200 yard backstroke and the 200 yard IM during the weekend and finished 54th overall with a time of 2:00.59 and 85th overall with a time of 2:05.84, respectively. Lucia swam in the 100 yard butterfly and the 400 yard IM to finish 62nd overall and 40th overall, respectively with times of 56.24 and 4:22.74.
All three Wagner competitors will participate in a long-course meters time-trail session today, as they attempt to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trails.
The Green & White will return to action when they travel to Rhode Island on January, 17th in a meet that begins at 1:00 p.m.
