Women’s Fencing Announces Incoming Class For Second-Ever Season

Staten Island, NY – Heading into its second season of competition, the Wagner College women's fencing team has signed three athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Fatima Largaespada has announced.

Abby Buckborough, Dove Sinclair, and Karen Martin will all compete in the sabre weapon, fencing's fastest weapon.

"I am really excited for my first recruiting class ever," said head coach Fatima Largaespada. "We found some really talented and hardworking girls that will add on to the ones we already have on the roster. This class will set the tone for what we want this young team to become in the future. I am excited to work with them and see the great things they will do."

Before Wagner: Fenced for Zeta Fencing under coach Zoran Tulum … Currently ranked seventh in her region, while also ranking nationally … Her brother, Dylan, was a four-year soccer player at Massachusetts Maritime Academy … Daughter of Karen Nadeau …   Plans to major in Film & Media Studies … Also excelled in high school theater performances.

Coach Largaespada on Buckborough: "Abby will bring a lot of experience coming from Zeta Fencing where she's trained with Olympians. She's exceptional on the fencing strip with a hard-working and driven attitude."

Before Wagner: Gained valuable fencing experience competing for the KSA Fencing Club and Pride Fencing Club … Attended Suffield High School in West Suffield, CT … Has a younger brother, Jaden (12) … Won a state championship career development event in high school.

Coach Largaespada on Sinclair: "Dove is a brilliant fencer that will bring focus and dedication to our young team. We are really excited to have her on our team."

Before Wagner: Three-year fencer at Northern Highland Regional High School in Allendale, NJ for coach Dale Roberts prior to her arrival on Grymes Hill …  Also competed in track and field … Daughter of Chinita Carroll-Hudson and Kenneth Martin … Has five siblings, Brian (22), Taylor (23), Qadirah (23), Jennah (9), and Jihad (9).

Coach Largaespada on Martin: "Karen brings athleticism to the equation with some track & field background, which adds up to her fencing strengths. I look forward to seeing her compete as a Seahawk."
