Getting to know the Freshmen Four
Staten Island, NY – Wagner College head coach
Chris Radmonovich has announced the addition of four student-athletes for the 2017 women's water polo season. The Seahawks incoming freshman class consists of
Franciska Miló-Sidló,
Millie Pullyblank,
Jacqui Sjogren, and
Sophia Spengler.
"I'm excited to announce this year's incoming class," said Radmonovich, who is entering his seventh year as head coach of the defending three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champions. "After graduating three key players last year, I am confident in this group's ability to quickly mesh with our team as we compete for another MAAC title."
Franciska Miló-Sidló (Attack)
Hometown: Budapest, Hungary
Most recently, Miló-Sidló played water polo for Honvéd Polo in Budapest, and before that the Hungarian native competed for UVSE. In 2012-13, she was part of the team that won the Hungarian Cup, Hungarian Championship, and Junior Hungarian Championship. Two years later, Sidló won both the Hungarian Cup and the Hungarian Championship again while placing second in the Junior Hungarian Championship and fourth in the European Champions League.
Millie Pullyblank (Center)
Hometown: Victoria, Australia
A graduate of Haileybury Girls College, Pullyblank was a six-year member of the women's water polo team under the direction of her father and head coach, Brett Pullyblank. The Australian native also played for Essendon Water Polo Club where she was selected to represent Victoria on several state teams throughout her career, eventually making the Born '98 Australian Squad after a dominant performance in the 16&U Club Championships. In 2015, Pullyblank competed in the Canberra Cup where she was awarded Most Valuable Player while playing for the Vikings who claimed the gold medal. The rookie arrived on Grymes Hill just after the New Year in hopes of combining her passion for water polo and helping others as a physical education teacher.
Jacqui Sjogren (Attack)
Hometown: Queensland, Australia
A four-year letterwinner at St. Andrews Anglican College, Sjogren was named Water Polo Female Player of the Year four-straight years. The Australian native also competed for Sunshine Coast Water Polo where she was a four-year captain. This past year, the rookie was selected to represent Sunshine Coast as a field player in the 2016 18&U Club National Championships where her team won the Bowl final, finishing in ninth place overall. Sjogren began her athletic career swimming and playing basketball before combining her talents and picking up water polo. In addition to playing water polo at St. Andrews, the attacker also lettered in basketball for three years.
Sophia Spengler (Goalie)
Hometown: Kailua, Hawaii
A graduate of Le Jardin Academy, Spengler was a four-year starting goalie for the Bulldogs who lost just four conference games throughout her stint. The standout netminder led the Bulldogs to a pair of Interscholastic League Honolulu (ILH) Championships in 2014 and 2016 as well as an undefeated season in 2016. Spengler was named Le Jardin Academy Most Valuable Player in 2014 after accumulating a 9-1 record en route to her first ILH Championship. Two years later, she was tabbed the ILH Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to a perfect 10-0 season and another ILH Championship. A versatile athlete, Spengler played six varsity sports throughout high school. Despite winning individual honors in paddling and volleyball, the beach town native chose to pursue water polo at the collegiate level while pursuing a career as a physician assistant.
