2015 ACWPC All-AmericansStaten Island, NY – A pair of Seahawks,
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) and
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA/ San Ramon Valley), were named 2015 Association of Collegiate Water Polo (ACWPC) Coaches All-American Honorable Mention.
Lundgren and Rodriguez were two of 36 collegiate women's water polo players to be named honorable mention while finding themselves in elite group of just 57 student-athletes that can call themselves 2015 ACWPC All-Americans.
2015 NCAA Champion Stanford took home top honors as Maggie Steffens was named Player of the Year and John Tanner was awarded Coach of the Year honors.
Lundgren had a truly historic 2015 season for Wagner, culminating in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Year award. The Australian native was a dominant force year round for the Seahawks as the Australian native flashed her scorning ability with a bevy of finishing moves throughout the 2015 season. Lundgren scored 116 goals, a Wagner single season goal record, on her way to posting a conference high 178 points. The ever imposing center lead the conference in goals and points in conference-only regular season games as she totaled 52 goals and an astonishing 84 points to lead the Green & White to a 10-2 league mark.
Lundgren's 84 point output was 20 points higher than the next leader in the statistical category for MAAC-only games and her 178 point total for the year was nearly 40 points higher than third ranked Amanda Amorosa of Marist. The junior center also led the league in weekly honors as she compiled six MAAC Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Rodriguez posted 87 assists to lead the MAAC while adding a conference second best 145 points for the year. The 87 assists was 25 more than any other MAAC individual and she was one of the main facilitators for the Seahawk attack. The Californian was named to the All-MAAC Second Team after impressing all season long. The slick lefty had a phenomenal MAAC Tournament which ended in the 2015 MAAC Tournament Most Valuable Player Award. Rodriguez was one of the driving forces in the Seahawks second consecutive MAAC Championship this season, posting seven goals and six assists in Green & White's two MAAC postseason competitions.
Lundgren and Rodriguez were just as impressive in the classroom as each were MAAC All-Academic Team members. The duo joins Chelsea Beck (2012), Lauren French (2011), Kelsey Rodgers (2010), Billy Hoelck (2008) and Stacy Travous (2006) as the only All-Americans in program history.
