Staten Island, NY - Former Stony Brook University standout
Salome Mkervalidze has been named as the head women's tennis coach by Wagner Athletic Director
Walt Hameline.
She arrives on Grymes Hill after most recently serving as a tennis instructor at Glen Oaks Country Club in Old Westbury, NY.
Mkervalidze earned four varsity letters for the Seawolves from 2008-2012, while racking up 51 wins during singles play and 38 in doubles action.
As a senior, she helped Stony Brook to the 2012 America East Title and a berth in the 64-team NCAA Championship. During Mkervalidze's career, she also earned First Team All-America East honors at No. 6 singles and a pair of Second Team accolades at No. 2 doubles while helping the Seawolves to a 59-21 record.
A standout in the classroom as well, Mkervalidze graduated with a 3.17 GPA and a degree in economics with a minor in business management.
She replaces
Myriam Sopel, who left Wagner to pursue a similar position at the University of Idaho.
Mkervalidze, a native of Tbilisi, Georgia (Republic of), will be pursuing her MBA at Wagner.
