Staten Island, NY – Wagner College defensive back
Jeremiah Brown (Brooklyn, NY/ Grand Street Campus) and senior defensive end
Quintin Anderson (Penfield, NY/ Milford Academy) signed free agent contracts today with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively, following their performances held at each team's rookie mini-camp over the weekend.
Brown joins former Seahawk teammate
Julian Stanford (Bloomington, CT/ Bloomington) in Jacksonville. Stanford also took part in this weekend's mini-camp as a signed free agent, having inked his contract with the Jaguars on April 29.
Each NFL franchise stages a rookie mini-camp that includes the team's draft picks, undrafted free agents and holdover first-year players. Many teams also invite a host of players who did not get picked up in either the draft or the first wave of rookie free agent signings (such as Stanford), an opportunity to prove they belong in an NFL training camp. Brown and Anderson fall into this latter category, and with their performances this weekend, they now move one step closer to earning a coveted spot in training camp.
In 2011, Brown finished third on the team in tackles with 72, including 41 solo stops, 6.5 tackles for loss for minus 28 yards, two sacks for minus 17 yards, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two recovered fumbles and one blocked kick. The 6-0, 190-pound Brown enjoyed a career-high 12-tackle game on September 10 at Richmond and had three eight-tackle performances as well.
Anderson began his career as on offensive lineman during the 2008 season before being switched to defensive end prior to the 2009 campaign. The 6-5, 280-pound Anderson quickly adapted to his new position, coming up with an interception in week three of the 2009 season at North Dakota St. He went on to record 44 tackles that season and finished his career with 50 stops, including 40 solo tackles and eight tackles for loss for minus 15 yards.
Anderson ended his career with a flourish, returning a recovered fumble at Robert Morris (11/12/11) and returning it 48 yards. The following week, in the final game of his career at Monmouth (11/19/11), Anderson scooped up another fumble, returning this one 68 yards. Both fumble recoveries resulted in touchdown drives for the Seahawks.
