Staten Island, NY - Wagner head basketball coach
Dan Hurley has announced that WFAN Update Anchor and News 12 New Jersey Sports Anchor/Reporter
Joey Wahler will serve as the official voice of all Seahawk broadcasts for the 2011-2012 season.
During the home portion of the schedule, Wahler will broadcast all 13 games that are to be webstreamed via the
WagnerAthletics website. Each individual game can be purchased for $7.95 with a season pass costing $49.95.
For all 16 road games, a straight audio broadcast can be accessed by listeners for free thanks to an agreement with Red Zone Media.
“Wagner appears on the verge of big things, so I feel fortunate to be in on the ground floor of this renaissance on Staten Island,” said Wahler. “I can't wait to begin describing the exploits of this exciting young team. And I'll learn a lot being around two-thirds of New Jersey's first family of basketball, Dan and Bobby Hurley.”
Additionally, all home games that will be broadcast via regional or national television will not be streamed. Rather a free audio broadcast of those games will available thru Red Zone Media. The complete Northeast Conference (NEC) Television list will be announced at a later date.
During the 2010-2011 season, Wahler was America's only announcer for two Division I men's basketball programs, at St. Peter's College and Long Island University, both of whom qualified for the NCAA Tournament. He has also called games nationally for Westwood One Radio, including No. 1 Memphis vs. No. 2 Tennessee, the Pac 10 Championship and 12 NCAA Tournament games
On a regional level, Wahler has called televised basketball games for the Northeast Conference, and was the play-by-play voice for Rider University basketball.
Wahler's career began at Seton Hall University's WSOU, where he was mentored by late sports broadcast legend Marty Glickman and called games during the Pirates run to the 1989 National Championship Game.
His work at News 12 and previously at MSG Network, has earned Wahler seven New York Emmy Award nominations, most recently in 2010 for Best Sports Anchor and Best Sportscast.
