Staten Island, NY - Good morning from blustery Staten Island, New York where the Wagner football team will kick off a highly anticipated season with the Seahawks' annual Green & White preseason scrimmage. Beginning at 1:00 pm the team will begin a seven-on-seven non-contact  10-play set before moving on to Field Goals/Extra Points. Then at 1:10 pm the 80-play live scrimmage will commence.

Fans come on up to today's scrimmage ... The rain appears to be subsiding ... Also there will be a post-game BBQ with admission being $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind comes on the speakers and wouldn't you know it, the sun has emerged from the clouds ... The fans are starting to arrive as the players are going through stretching drills.

(12:44 pm) Congratulations to the Wagner women's soccer team which posted a 1-0 victory over Pacific yesterday in Hawaii ... Also a special shout out to any fan that stayed up until 3:00 am (EST) to catch the thrilling conclusion ... Jessica Panarella (Staten Island, NY / McKee-Tech) scored five minutes into the contest before the defense held off the Tigers out of the Big West Conference ... 2009 All-NEC performer Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ / Pascack Hills) also assisted on the play.

(12:59 pm) The Wagner passing skeleton begins the scrimmage ... Seven-on-seven drills ... All-NEC quarterback Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY / Moore) gets things going ... Also former Seahawk trainers Amanda Thoens and Janelle Francisco in the stands today getting their first glimpse of the 2010 Green & White unit.

(1:09 pm) Wagner field goal unit converts 5-of-9 ... The Seahawk kickers went 2-for-3 from 32 yards, 1-for-3 from 39 yars and 2-for-3 from Scott Norwood territory (47 yards).

(1:10 pm) The Seahawks first-string offense takes the field at their own 17 yard line. Doscher lines up behind center with Blake Bascom in the backfield.

(1:11 pm) Justin Matthews hauls in the first Wagner reception of the year for seven yards.

The Seahawks look very intimidating up front with returning senior starters Joe Feriozzi (2009  Second Team All-NEC), Zach Johnson and Cleveland Green (2009 Second Team All-NEC).

(1:15 pm) Eric Foxworth getting a bulk of the touches out of the backfield with projected starter Dominique Williams not suiting up.

(1:17 pm) Rochester's finest Quintin "Q" Anderson sacks Doscher, forcing Wagner to punt.

Tyler Newberry taking the reins for the offense ... Picks up 10 yards on a scramble up the middle.

Staten Island Advance reporter Jim Waggoner (though he said he wished it was spelled Wagner) up in the press box catching the action ... 20 minutes in and the action is good ... Just hoping my stomach can survive until the post-game BBQ.

(1:22 pm) The offense is creeping to midfield but the defense snuffs out David Crawford on a screen pass, leaving him just short of the 50 yard line with third-and-long coming up.

(1:23 pm) Newberry's home run pass too long for Crawford.

(1:27 pm) Doscher's pass complete to Crawford for 15 yards ... First down at the offense's 45 yard line.

(1:34 pm) Bascom rips off a 31-yard run past midfield to the 39 yard line.

(1:38 pm) Still no points for the offense ... Defense looks much-improved this year.

(1:41 pm) Three and out for the third-string offense.

... Just a reminder fans the Seahawks' first game is at Assumption on Septeber 11 at 7:00 pm.

(1:47 pm) All-NEC First Team selection Frantz Placide takes back the second-half kickoff to the 25-yard line ... Doscher under center.

(1:49 pm) Syracuse native Stefan Gage picks off Doscher, almost taking it to the house ... Defense on the board.

(1:51 pm) Syracuse transfer Torian Phillips deflects Newberry's pass, almost hauling in an interception.

(1:55 pm) The rain has arrived ... It is pouring at the Wagner football field.

(1:58 pm) Ashley Olsen is in the press box ladies and gentlemen ... Not the Full House star rather the Basketball/Softball student-athlete from Wagner.

(2:01 pm) Doscher takes it up the middle for 10 yards.

(2:03 pm) Props to the Wagner fans ... Being the true fans they are, many brought umbrellas and are still in attendance.

(2:09 pm) Been a great event so far ... Everyone from facilities to security has done a fantastic job.
