MAAC RELEASE
Edison, NJ – For the second consecutive week, senior
Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon/Fullerton JC) earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors. Rodgers led the Seahawks to four wins in the last five games, which includes a 3-1 streak at the Cal. Lutheran Tournament in Thousand Oaks, CA last weekend.
Over the weekend, Rodgers made three starts against Cal. State University, Monterey Bay, No. 14 ranked University of Pacific, and host-team Cal. Lutheran. Twice she registered double digit saves, which included a 20-save performance to hold CSU, Monterey Bay to season-low two goals and 11 saves in a dominating second-half performance against Pacific.
For the season, Rodgers is ranked first in MAAC standings with 12.64 saves per games, nearly three saves per game better than Iona's Kathleen Link 9.60 average in second place. She is the main contributor to Wagner's second-ranked defense that has allowed only 9.06 goals per contest. Currently, Rodgers sits second on Wagner's all-time save list with 492 stops. With eight stops this week, she will be the fastest goalie to 500 saves in Wagner College history.
The Seahawks return to action today when they take on No. 10 Cal. State University, Northbridge and Occidental College. The games will take place in Northbridge, CA and are scheduled for 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, east coast time.
