Seahawks Blanked By LIU

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY –
Four different Blackbirds found the back of the net to help Long Island University shutout the visiting Seahawks 4-0 at LIU Field. The game marked both teams first NEC contest, with LIU improving to 7-1-1 on the year, while Wagner fell to 4-6-0.

The Seahawks kicked off with the games first scoring opportunity, as Jackie Nicholas (Rockville Centre, NY) blasted a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that sailed just over the crossbar. Sophomore midfielder Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ) led the Green and White offensively with a total of three shots on the day.

All the days scoring came from the Blackbirds though, as Toni Smith and Nikki Labo each netted goals in the first half, followed by Ariana Calderon and Sarah Laughlin adding marks in the second half to extend the Blackbirds unbeaten streak to seven games.

Seahawks freshman goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY) played another 90 minute game in net, making nine saves, while LIU's Jessica Sexton and Jennifer Bannon split time, combining for four saves.

The Seahawks return to action on Sunday, September 26, as they take on the Owls of Temple University at 1:00 pm at Wagner Stadium.
