Men's Indoor Track And Field Sets Four Program Records At IC4A's

Boston, MA - Several members of newly-minted two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Track and Field champions, Wagner Seahawks, were in action at this weekend's IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Over the weekend, the men's team rewrote four records.

The men's 4x400 relay team, comprised of Josiah Cadet, Cyril Babcanec, Jason Marchese, and Thomas Corel set the new school record, finishing second overall with a time of 3:12.07. The time surpasses the mark they recently set at this year's Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Track and Field Championships (3:14.35).

Corel finished fifth overall in the 400m, posting a time of 47.76 to finish as the Seahawks' top-overall finisher.

Marchese placed seventh in the 500 meters, clocking in with a time of 1:04.51.

William Cuthbertson rounded out the top-ten in the mile, finishing with a time of 4:16.40. During preliminaries, the veteran Seahawk turned in a time of 4:03.21, which surpassed former teammate, Trausti Thorstein, who held the mark at the Fastrack National Invite back on February 14, 2020, with a time of 4:04.11.

Dominic Palermo placed among the top-15, finishing 12th overall with a time of 8:11.24, while teammate Jean Uminski placed 21st overall with a time of 8:18.33. For Palermo, he broke his own school record, which he set back at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite back on February 5.

Anthony Bentivegna produced Wagner's fourth school record, as he finished eighth in the 5000m with a time of 14:19.36. The new time set by Bentivegna breaks a near five-year mark, as Liam Harris was the previous record holder, finishing with a time of 14:22.22 at the 2017 edition of the IC4A's.

Rounding out the performances at the weekend's final indoor event were:
  • Ryan Lane placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 6.62m.
  • Corey Durden concluded the weight throw among the top-15 with a toss of 15.86m.
  • Michael Hubert finished tenth during the preliminaries in the 1000m with a time of 2:27.34.
  • Mahmoud Abdalla and Luke Cunningham were among the top-25 in the preliminaries in the 800m, posting times of 1:52.25 and 1:52.50, respectively.
  • Joshua Cadet ran 21.87 during the prelims of the 200m.
