Santa Barbara, CA -
UC Santa Barbara defeated Wagner 7-1 in the second game at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

With today's doubleheader sweep, the Gauchos improve to 16-3 while the Seahawks fall to 2-14.

UC Santa Barbara opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to RBI singles from Woody Woodward and Cameron Newell. However, the damage could have been worse as freshman RHP Danny Marsh got the second out via a strikeout before inducing an inning-ending ground out to leave the bases loaded.

The Gauchos added to the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the second in opening up a 3-0 lead.

Wagner would get on the board in the top of the third inning. Junior Dan Wasilick (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) got the Seahawk rally going when he was plunked with one out.  Freshman Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) followed by drawing a walk. After the second out, junior Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) picked up Wasilick with a RBI single to trim the deficit to 3-1. Senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) then reached via an error to load up the bases, but UCSB starter Austin Pettibone quelled the rally by inducing an inning-ending fly out.

Marsh settled down after allowing a second-inning run, retiring seven-straight before and just one hit over his final three innings of work.

UC Santa Barbara added to the lead in the sixth on Ryan Clark's RBI single before adding three more scores in the eighth while opening up a 7-1 lead.

Wagner threatened in the top of the ninth, loading up the bases on walks to sophomore Vaughn Champion (Galloway, NJ / Absegami) and senior Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Ellsworth CC (IA)), sandwiched between a sophomore John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) single. Unfortunately, the Seahawks would leave the bases loaded for the second time on the afternoon.

In defeat, Marsh (0-1) struck out one while allowing three runs, two earned, over 5.0 innings of work while Pettibone (1-0) garnered the win.

The teams will conclude their series with a single game tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm.
