San Marcos, TX -
Texas State rallied from a pair of three-run deficits in posting a come-from-behind 9-7 win over Wagner in the second game of a doubleheader at Bobcat Field.

The Seahawks, which led the majority of the game, falls to 0-6 on the season while the Bobcats improve to 9-2 in collecting the series sweep. The Green & White, which dropped all three games by a total of just seven runs, had a solid weekend, hitting .269 with a .367 OBP while committing just two errors.

Wagner struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) opened the scoring, plating classmate Evan Fardella (Bartonsville, PA / Pocono Mountain East) with a RBI triple before coming around to score on Chris Smith's (Sr., Tampa, FL / Ellsworth CC (IA)) run-scoring double.

After Texas State briefly answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, the Seahawks pounced for two more runs in opening up a 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth. Senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) led off the frame with a double and scored one batter later when junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) singled down the right field line. Mazurkiewicz would later come in to score on Vaughn Champion's (So., Galloway, NJ / Absegami) RBI ground out.

The Bobcats, however, rallied with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame while trimming the deficit to 4-3.

In the top of the sixth inning, Champion plated Mazurkiewicz on a sacrifice bunt in before Mascelli scored Fardella with a RBI single in extending the lead out to 6-3.

Once again, Texas State matched the visitors with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame to slice the deficit to 6-5.

The Seahawks had a chance to add to the lead in the seventh but stranded a pair on the bases and the Bobcats took advantage in the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Garrett Mattlage gave Texas State its first of the game at 9-6 with a grand slam that just cleared the right field fence.

Wagner would get one run back on another Mazurkiewicz RBI single but would get no closer in falling 9-7.

Mazurkiewicz went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI while Mascelli was also 3-for-5 with two RBI and a triple to lead the way for the Seahawks. The Green & White, which outhit the Bobcats 12-10, also recorded a pair of multi-hit performances from Flynn and Smith.

LHP Cory Geisler (2-0) earned the win for the Bobcats with two strikeouts over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief while Hunter Lemke notched his third save of the weekend and the fourth of the season.
