San Luis Obispo, CA - Matt Imhof struck out 14 over 8.0 innings of one-run to lead No. 8 Cal Poly to an 8-1 win over Wagner in the first of three games at Baggett Stadium.

The Mustangs improve to  15-3 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 2-9 as the teams will resume their series tomorrow at 9:00 pm (EST).

Cal Poly opened the scoring with an unearned run in bottom of the second inning before adding to the lead on John Schuknecht's RBI triple in the fourth.

The Green & White then rallied in the top of the fifth inning as sophomore Vaughn Champion (Galloway, NJ / Absegami) reached via a one-out bunt single before freshman Evan Fardella (Bartonsville, PA / Pocono Mountain East) reached via a fielding error. The duo was then moved to second-and-third on junior Dan Wasilick's (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately, the pair would be stranded as Imhof quelled the threat with a strikeout.

In the bottom part of the frame, the Mustangs added four runs while batting around in opening up an insurmountable 6-0 lead. 

Wagner would dent the scoreboard in the in the top of the sixth inning as junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) led off with a walk before scoring on freshman Nick Mascelli's (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) RBI two-out single down the right field line.

Cal Poly would get that run back in the bottom part of the frame before adding another tally in the eighth to provide the final 8-1 score.

Champion went 2-for-3 to lead the way for the Seahawks. In defeat, senior RHP Ryan Casey (Paramus, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) allowed six runs, four earned with two strikeouts and no walks over 4.2 innings of work in falling to 0-3.

Five different Mustangs recorded two hits to lead a 13-hit attack to help Imhof improve to 4-1 on the season.
