Seahawks Fall To ULM and Middle Tennessee On Day Two Of Charleston Games

Game One - Louisiana-Monroe
Game Two - Middle Tennessee

Charleston, SC –
The Wagner College softball team dropped both contests in day two of the University of Charleston Games today, falling to Louisiana-Monroe, 6-2, before losing to Middle Tennessee 6-3 in the nightcap.

In the opening game against the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe, the Seahawks were able to get on the board first, when freshman Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA / Lynnwood) gave the Green & White their first hit of the day with a single, which scored #Taylor Rauscher3 (Peoria, AZ / Sunrise Mountain) and put Wagner up 1-0 in the top of the third.

Junior pitcher Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run) had given up just two hits before the Warhawks began the bottom of the fourth inning, but ULM led off with a solo homerun, before tacking on three more before the third out came, propelling them to a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth.

As the Seahawks failed to post a run in the fifth inning, the Warhawks tallied two more with their bats, after a two-run homer off relief pitcher Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor) put Wagner in the hole, 6-1.

The Green & White were able to get one more across home plate in the top of the sixth inning, after Rauscher double to left center field, scoring Vanessa Lenart (Fontana, CA / Henry J. Kaiser HS), but that was the last run of the game, as the Warhawks knocked off Wagner 6-2 in game one.

Wagner looked to get itself out of their three-game losing slump heading into the afternoon contest against Middle Tennessee, as the Seahawks held a 3-2 lead going into the sixth inning. Wagner's runs were made possible by hits from Brittany Huss (Anthem, AZ / Boulder Creek) and Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV / Galena), who each had multi-hit games, and freshman Jessica Albarran (Corona, CA / Eleanor Roosevelt), who belted her first collegiate homerun to put her squad up by one late in the game.

The Blue Raiders came right back in their final to offensive innings though, tying the game in the top of the sixth inning, before putting up three marks in the seventh to seal the 6-3 victory. Sophomore Ashley Rollins (Fairfax, VA / Fairfax) was credited with the loss, as she came in for Bedker midway through the sixth inning in relief.

With the two losses, the Seahawks remain winless on the year, moving to 0-4, with one game left in their South Carolina trip, when they play the College of Charleston tomorrow afternoon.
