BOX SCORE

Richmond, VA -
Richmond (10-8) scored 11 unanswered runs in posting a 13-4 come-from-behind victory over Wagner (2-9) while taking the rubber game of the three-game set at Pitt Field.

Junior Joe Jamison (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell) led a 10-hit Seahawk attack, going 2-for-3 with a walk  and run. Senior Damian Csakai (Freehold Township, NJ / Freehold Township) went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run while freshman Gaby Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico / Perkiomen (PA)) also notched two hits, rounding out the multiple-hit performers for the Green & White.

After allowing the Spiders to assume the early lead in each of the first two games, Wagner struck first in the third match-up. Csakai led off the game with a single to left field on a 0-2 offering. After stealing second for his 99th career swipe, the speedy Csakai scored on Jared Gruccio's (Jr., Landisville, NJ / Buena Regional) single up the middle. Gruccio proceeded to steal second and advanced to third on a ground out, but would be stranded in scoring position.

A solid defense kept Richmond off the board in the bottom of the first. Junior Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) robbed Adam McConnell of an extra-base hit with a full-extension grab. Later with runners on the corners and two outs, Seahawk starter RHP Ryan Van Spronsen (Toronto, Ontario / Brantford) ended the frame by picking off Billy Barber at first base.

The Spiders got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, scoring a pair of runs on four hits.

Wagner immediately retook the lead in the top of the third inning. Jamison and Gruccio each drew walks before senior Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) blasted a three-run home run to deep left field. The three RBI moved the Garden State native into third place on the Seahawk career RBI list with 126, eclipsing 2004 graduate Chris Dick's total of 125. Avella also now has a team-leading six home runs and 21 RBI while slugging at an .822 clip.

The Green & White had a chance to add to the lead in the top of the fourth as Ramirez , junior Matt Logan (Wall, NJ / Wall) and Jamison all singled with one out to load up the bases. Richmond escaped escaped the threat, using an inning-ending double play on the next play.

Wagner stranded a runner in scoring position in the top of the fifth and the Spiders took advantage in the bottom part of the frame, loading up the bases with no outs on a single and two walks. Cameron Brown followed with a single up the middle, tying the game up at 4-4. Richmond then went in front at 6-4 with sacrifice flies from Chris Cowell and Evan Stehle.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Spiders added to the lead with two runs, one of which was unearned.

Wagner had an opportunity to cut into the lead in the top of the seventh and eighth innings, but came away empty handed while stranding two runners in each frame. In the seventh inning, Csakai recorded his second hit of the game before becoming the first Seahawk to record 100 steals with his swipe of second base.

Richmond put the game away in the bottom of the eighth with five runs before closing out the Green & White without incident in the top of the ninth inning to win the series.

Derek Boliek, Cameron Brown and Phil Ruzbarsky each recorded four hits, leading the way for the Spider offense.

Anthony Cafagna (1-0) picked up the win for Richmond, striking out two while yielding four runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.0 innings. Van Spronsen (0-2) was the pitcher of record for the Seahawks, striking out one while yielding six runs, on nine hits and five walks over 5.0 innings.

Wagner is next in action on Wednesday, March 24 when the Green & White travel to Lafayette for a non-conference affair at 3:00 pm.
